What kind of game is this?
Gundam Assemble is a physical miniatures strategy game from BANDAI SPIRITS. You build approximately 50 mm Gunpla, place them on a hex map and resolve battles using unit cards, Tactics cards and ten-sided dice. It is a separate game from GUNDAM CARD GAME.
Scenarios can recreate a Gundam story or bring units from different series together. For a first game, use a scenario supplied in your starter rather than building a custom battle. Its map, deployment and victory conditions give both players a clear starting point.
Your first purchase
Starter Set 01 [ST01] is the direct entry point: six unpainted miniatures, six unit cards, 18 Tactics cards, a map, paper terrain, tokens, dice, two scenario objective cards, a handbook and two quick-reference sheets. The published US MSRP is $35; local prices and availability differ.
An expansion supplies units and cards, but not a complete shared play space. If your friend already owns a starter, an expansion can be a useful way to add your own squad. If neither player owns the game materials, start with the starter or an appropriate Deluxe set.
Prepare a first game
- Build the miniatures using the included assembly instructions. Keep each base with its corresponding unit.
- Choose one of the supplied scenarios and lay out its map, terrain, deployment areas and objectives.
- Match every miniature with its unit card and Timeline token. Separate each player's Tactics cards.
- Open the current core rules alongside the quick-reference sheet. Resolve the opening activations slowly.
- Track victory points as they are earned and apply the scenario's end conditions.
Learn in this order
First identify whose unit activates on the Timeline. Next learn the four parts of an activation: Advance, a Primary Action, Command Abilities and a Tactics card. Then practice measuring hex range, checking line of sight and resolving an attack.
For the first learning game, discuss positioning and read card text aloud. Once both players understand the loop, replay the same scenario before changing units. This makes it easier to see how action cost and objective control change decisions.
